GeoIDEA Lab

The GeoIDEA (Geospatial, Innovation, Development, and Environmental Applications) Lab is made up of students with a wide range of backgrounds and research interests. The primary focus of research is to use geospatial tools, concepts, and knowledge to solve multidisciplinary problems. Check out the Team Members page to learn more about each of them and have a look at some of our Current Projects! Scroll down on this page to see learn about us and see some of the equipment available in our lab.

Members of the GeoIDEA lab (and friends) on an outing in spring 2021: Bethany, Kaj, Dr. Rogers, Elvis, Ella (AU Contaminants Group), Stephen, Lauren, Dr. Ojeda (AU Contaminants Group) and Mallory.
The physical lab space for the GeoIDEA lab includes two high powered workstations, equipment for data collection, processing and analysis, and meeting and hanging out areas.

Equipment

Within the lab, we have several drones that students can use to conduct their research activities: DJI Matrice 200 with skyport and MicaSense Altum Multispectral and Thermal sensor; DJI Mavic 3 Multispectral with RTK; (several) DJI Phantom 4 Pro with attachable Parrot Sequoia Multispectral Sensor; and the DJI Mini. We also have access to a terrestrial LiDAR system, a ground penetrating radar (GPR), ArrowGold RTK GPS, ground control targets, and various tools needed to be successful in the field. Check out our photo gallery below to see the equipment in action.

Resource: Download a handy Unoccupied Aerial System (UAS) Mission Checklist before going out in the field to collect data!
